Three Wichita schools to raise money to help students in Moore, Okla., in wake of tornado

Three Wichita elementary schools plan to raise money to help students in Moore, Okla., recover from a devastating tornado.

??College Hill Elementary School?s summer program will host a lemonade stand from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through July 12 at the school, 211 N. Clifton. Students will work shifts at the stand, which they have titled ?Moore Lemonade, Please,? to collect money for students in Moore.

??Black Traditional Magnet will have a snow cone stand from noon to 3 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and July 12 at the school, 1045 N. High.

??Riverside Leadership Magnet, 1001 N. Porter, also will host a lemonade stand and bake sale to support residents of Moore during enrollment on July 31.

In 2011, College Hill hosted a lemonade stand to support schools in Joplin, Mo., after a tornado hit that community. The students raised more than $13,000, which included a $10,000 donation from Holland Paving.

On May 20, an EF-5 tornado struck Moore, Okla., killing 23 people, injuring hundreds and flattening neighborhoods and businesses. Among the victims were seven children who were killed when the tornado swept through an elementary school.
