Tackling inform Lasith Malinga will be exciting says David Hussey ? Cricket News Update
Australian veteran batsman, David Hussey, has warned his teammates that tackling Sri Lankan spearhead Lasith Malinga won?t be easy, terming the latter as ?in the form of his life?.
Hussey and Malinga played alongside each other during the ongoing Big Bash League, where the latter lit the competition with some impressive performances for the Melbourne Stars, including a magical 6 for 7 spell against Perth Scorchers.
However, with international duty calling, both will now face each other in the ODI series which starts this Friday. The tourists will certainly do with the services of their ODI spearhead, having being totally outplayed in the recently concluded Test series, which they lost 3-0.
The inexperienced of the Lankan?s Test attack and the lack of depth has been debated by many former Australian players, and calls to bring Malinga back into the Test area were also mooted before the player himself played down any such talks.
However, Hussey was quick to praise Malinga and warned his own teammates as they prepare for the first two ODIs without some of their seasoned players. Michael Clarke has been advised rest by the selectors as George Bailey takes in charge of the side. Moreover, the two W?s, Warner (rest) and Watson (injured), will be missing from the lineup, along with David?s elder brother, Michael, who recently decided to retire from international cricket.
"They've got some of the best bowlers in the world," Hussey said. "Lasith Malinga, I was lucky enough to play with him at the Melbourne Stars and he's in the form of his life. All our batters have to really get down to business and do their homework and really try to take him out of the equation.
"Never scared [of facing him] - it's always exciting. You always want to play the best bowlers in the world. It's a great opportunity to face him. If you do well against him, it gives not only your team a lot of confidence but yourself and your game a lot of confidence as well."
Hussey will also be aiming to put on a good show after suffering a considerable dip in form, the last time he took the field for the national team, which included an ODI series against Pakistan, along with a bit-part appearance in the subsequent World T20.
